چکیده

Sphaeriusidae is a small family of tiny aquatic beetles in the suborder Myxophaga. In this study we characterize two new sphaeriusid fossils from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber with help confocal laser scanning microscopy. Sphaerius martini Li & Cai sp. nov. displays similarities both extant Bezesporum and , although it can be readily recognized based on parallel-sided prosternum. Crowsonaerius minutus gen. et differs other genera having unreduced apical maxillary palpomeres, lowered mesoventrite, large metacoxal plates, separated mesotrochanter mesofemur, equal pretarsal claws. The present demonstrates efficacy microscopy studying minute dark bioinclusions amber.urn:lsid: zoobank.org :pub:6E6EDC20-744A-4A75-849A-4B6126628C15.

Mummified precocial bird wings in mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber

Our knowledge of Cretaceous plumage is limited by the fossil record itself: compression fossils surrounding skeletons lack the finest morphological details and seldom preserve visible traces of colour, while discoveries in amber have been disassociated from their source animals. Here we report the osteology, plumage and pterylosis of two exceptionally preserved theropod wings from Burmese amber...

An early and mysterious histerid inquiline from Cretaceous Burmese amber (Coleoptera, Histeridae)

We describe a new genus and species of Histeridae from Upper Cretaceous Burmese amber, Amplectister tenax Caterino & Maddison, gen. & sp. n. This species represents the third known Cretaceous histerid, which, like the others, is highly distinct and cannot easily be placed to subfamily. It exhibits prosternal characters in common with Saprininae, but other characters appear inconsistent with thi...

Grimaldinia pronotalis n.gen., n.sp. from Mid-Cretaceous Burmese Amber (Hemiptera: Heteroptera, Leptopodidae, Leptosaldinae).

A new genus and species of leptopodid bug, Grimaldinia pronotalis Popov & Heiss is described and illustrated from Burmese Middle Cretaceous (Albian-Cenomanian) amber originating from the northern Myanmar's Kachin State. This is the second finding of Leptosaldinae (Leptopodidae), after Poinar published on Palaeoleptus burmanicus from Burmese amber in 2009.

New earwigs in mid-Cretaceous amber from Myanmar (Dermaptera, Neodermaptera)

Two new earwigs (Dermaptera) recently discovered in mid-Cretaceous (latest Albian) amber from Myanmar are described and figured. Astreptolabis ethirosomatiagen. et sp. n. is represented by a peculiar pygidicranoid female, assigned to a new subfamily, Astreptolabidinaesubfam. n., and differs from other protodermapterans in the structure of the head, pronotum, tegmina, and cercal forceps. Tytthod...

A fossil bee from Early Cretaceous Burmese amber.

The bee fossil record is fragmentary, making it difficult to accurately estimate the antiquity of bee-mediated pollination. Here, we describe a bee fossil [Melittosphex burmensis (new species), Melittosphecidae (new family)] from Early Cretaceous Burmese amber (approximately 100 million years before the present). The fossil provides insights into the morphology of the earliest bees and provides...
